Birds are actually quite clever so if someone tells you you’re a bird brain you can take it as a big compliment.
I came across this video of a bird making what appears to be new tail feathers from a sheet of paper. It’s fascinating to me on many levels.
- That the bird can so skillfully cut strips of paper.
- That she wants to.
- That she tucks them in amongst her feathers in an apparent bid to increase her tail length.
- Or, as some comments suggest, perhaps it is behaviour related to gathering nesting materials.
If you know anything about this kind of behaviour, I’d be curious to know what you think.
And regardless of the reason, it’s still really, really cool that a bird can take a manmade article and modify it for her own use. Very cool.
