Dakota likes pumpkinsDo you have any idea how hard it is to find pumpkins after Halloween? I sure didn’t.

Two weeks after Halloween I had the brilliant idea that I needed to make pumpkin and apple curry soup. Only there were no pumpkins to be had. Fortunately I was pet sitting in a fairly rural area and knew of a roadside stand selling pumpkins, so  my Fuzzy Buddy Dakota and I set out on a little trip.

Turned out the roadside stand was closed but I followed signs to a farm and found Mrs. Farmer in the field with her son harvesting seeds for next year’s crop. Despite the season being over she graciously gave me a mini lesson in pumpkins and some on-the-verge-of-demise specimens while Dakota had a great time romping with her dogs.

Trunk of pumpkinsI got a trunkful of pumpkins and Dakota had a heyday rolling in rotting pumpkin. Did I mention it was end of the season (= lots and lots of rotting pumpkins).

That was the same week we went for a walk along the Fraser River and Dakota delightedly rolled himself in rotting salmon that had washed up on shore. Someone had a lot of baths that week…

PS: The soup was delicious. (Thank you Sharon at Hazelmere Pumpkin Patch!)
